Data Export & Backup
Your records are yours. Herd Manager exports them in several formats, and you never need an active subscription to get your data out.
Full Backup
Settings → Full Backup
Exports everything — goats, breedings, kiddings, health records, milk, weights, finances, documents metadata — as a single file. This is the one to run before anything consequential:
- Before a large import
- Before resetting or deleting data
- Before switching devices
- On a schedule, as ordinary insurance
A full backup can be restored back into Herd Manager, which the per-area CSV exports cannot.
There's no wrong answer, but "after kidding season" and "after each round of milk testing" are natural moments — the times you've just entered a lot and would most hate to redo it.
CSV Exports by Area
Individual areas export to CSV for spreadsheet work:
- Breeding records
- Kidding events
- Health records
- Milk test results
- Shearing records
- Feed data
- Inventory
- Sale records
Find these on the relevant screen's ☰ menu rather than in Settings — breeding exports live on the Breeding tab, health exports on the Health tab, and so on.
CSV is the right format for analysis, sharing with a consultant, or moving data elsewhere. It's not a backup — it won't restore.
Printable Reports & PDFs
Herd Manager generates print-formatted documents for goat profiles, health histories, kidding reports, pedigrees, breeding plans, and registry worksheets. Use your browser's print dialog and choose Save as PDF rather than a printer.
These are the right format for vet visits, buyer packets, and registry paperwork.
What Happens to Your Data If You Cancel
Cancelling the Unlimited plan returns you to the free plan's limit on adding new active goats. Records you've already created are not deleted, and export stays available.
