Common Questions
Is Herd Manager really free? Yes. The free plan includes every feature with up to 10 active goats — no hidden fees, no features held back. Larger herds upgrade to Unlimited at $12/month or $100/year. See Free vs Unlimited.
Can I try Unlimited before paying? Yes — a 30-day trial is available, no credit card required.
What counts toward the 10-goat limit? Only goats with an Active status. Everything else — For Sale, Coming Soon, Sold, Processed, Deceased, Retired, and External (pedigree-only) — doesn't count, so you can keep complete history without paying.
Do I need to download anything? No. Herd Manager runs in your browser at herdmanager.app. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app, and there's an Android app on Google Play if you prefer that.
Does it work offline? Yes. Data saves to your device first and pushes to the cloud when you're online. Log milk, health events, and weights in a barn with no signal. See Sync Troubleshooting.
Can I use it on my phone and computer? Yes — same account, same records. Changes push automatically; another device picks them up when it loads or syncs.
Can multiple people access the same herd? Yes. Team access gives each person their own login with a role — Admin, Editor, or Viewer — so a farm sitter can log chores without seeing your finances.
How do I get my existing records in? Three ways, depending on what you're holding: spreadsheets (CSV, Excel), photos, screenshots, PDFs, or pasted text via the AI-powered H.E.R.D. import, and registration papers via pedigree import. You don't have to retype your herd.
What happens to my data if I cancel? Nothing is deleted. You revert to the free plan's limit on adding new active goats, and everything you've recorded stays — viewable and exportable. Resubscribe and it's all there.
Can I get my data out? Yes, any time, subscription or not — full backups, CSV exports per area, and printable PDFs.
What kinds of goats does it handle? Dairy, meat, fiber, and pack — in one herd if that's your operation. Set what you track in Settings → 🎯 Farm Focus and unused sections stay hidden.
