Adding & Editing Goats
Every goat in Herd Manager has a detailed record you can customize. Here's everything you can track.
Adding a New Goat
- Go to the 🐐 Herd tab
- Tap + Add Goat
- Fill in the fields (only name is required)
- Tap Save
Field Reference
Basic Information
- Name (required) — Your goat's registered or barn name
- Nickname — Barn name or call name if different
- Breed — Choose from 30+ breeds. This controls which color/marking options appear.
- Sex — Buck, Doe, Wether, Buckling, or Doeling
- Date of Birth — Enables age calculation and timeline features
- Status — Active, For Sale, Sold, Deceased, Archived, or Reference
- Tag Number — Ear tag or collar ID
Registration & ID
- Registry — ADGA, AGS, MDGA, NDGA, IGSCR, CGS, or other
- Registration Number — Your goat's registry number
- DNA Number — DNA test case number
- Microchip — Electronic ID number
Appearance
Color and marking options change based on the selected breed. For example, Nigerian Dwarf goats show different color options than Nubians.
- Color — Primary color
- Markings — Breed-specific marking patterns
- Description — Free-text physical description
Parentage
- Sire — Select from your herd, search globally, or enter an external sire (name, farm, registration)
- Dam — Same options as sire
Setting up parentage enables pedigree charts and COI (inbreeding coefficient) calculations.
Origin & Purchase
- Bred By — Farm of origin
- Purchase Date — When you acquired the goat
- Purchase Price — What you paid
- Seller — Who you bought from
Editing a Goat
Tap any goat in the Herd tab to open their profile, then tap the Edit button. All fields can be updated at any time.
Bulk Operations
From the Herd tab, you can:
- Search by name, registration, or tag
- Filter by breed, sex, status, or age
- Sort by name, age, or date added
