Pedigree Printouts

Choosing the Depth

Pick 3, 4, or 5 generations. Deeper isn't automatically better — a five-generation chart with three generations of blanks looks worse than a clean three-generation one.

Match the depth to what you've actually recorded.

What's Included

Ancestors with their names, registration numbers, and breed information, laid out as a standard pedigree chart. External ancestors — animals you don't own but have recorded for lineage — appear automatically alongside your own goats.

Getting a Good Pedigree

The chart is a rendering of your data, so completeness is everything. Filling in sire, dam, and their parents makes the difference between a document you'd hand a buyer and one you wouldn't.

If you have registration papers for ancestors, the Pedigree Import reads them from PDFs or photos rather than making you type them.

Uses

  • Sale packets and marketing
  • Registry applications
  • Breeding discussions
  • Show documentation
  • Framing, if you're proud of a line
Depth affects genetics, not just printing

The genetics tools calculate inbreeding to six generations. Pedigree depth you record for printing also improves COI accuracy — the two aren't separate efforts. See Genetics Tools.
