Health Certificates & Travel Papers
Goats that travel — to shows, to a buyer, to a new state — usually need paperwork. Storing it in the app means it's with you when someone asks.
What to Store
- CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection) — the standard interstate document, issued by your vet and typically valid for a limited window
- Test results — CAE, CL, Johne's, brucellosis, tuberculosis, M. ovi for pack goats
- Scrapie identification records
- Import permits where a destination state requires one
Attach documents to the specific goat so they travel with the animal's record.
Expiry Is the Thing That Bites
A CVI is valid for a limited period — commonly around 30 days, though it varies. A certificate from last season is not paperwork; it's a piece of paper.
Note the issue date when you upload, and check validity before you load animals.
Interstate and international movement rules differ by state, species, and purpose, and they change. Show organizers frequently have their own requirements on top. Your vet and the destination state's animal health office are the authorities; Herd Manager stores what you've been issued.
Generating vs. Storing
Herd Manager can produce a health history for an animal from your records — useful for a vet appointment or a buyer packet. That is not a health certificate. A CVI must be issued by an accredited veterinarian after examining the animal.
