Kidding Season Workflow

A recommended workflow for managing kidding season efficiently with Herd Manager.

Before Kidding Season​

  1. Ensure all breeding events are recorded with accurate dates
  2. Review due dates on the Calendar tab
  3. Set up kidding checklists
  4. Prepare kidding supply checklist items
  5. Set reminders for 140 days post-breeding (start watching for signs)

During Kidding​

  1. Monitor the Breeding tab for does approaching their due dates
  2. When kidding begins, use the kidding checklist for each doe
  3. Record the kidding event with all kid details immediately after
  4. Log birth weights for each kid
  5. Add health events (navel dipping, selenium/vitamin E, etc.)

After Kidding​

  1. Start a new lactation period for each freshened doe
  2. Begin logging daily milk weights
  3. Track kid growth with regular weigh-ins
  4. Set up feeding schedules for bottle kids
  5. Schedule disbudding, vaccinations, and other kid health events
