Kid Reservations
Buyers often want a kid before one exists. Reservations track who's waiting, what they want, and what they've paid.
Creating a Reservation
A reservation records:
- Buyer — linked to your contacts
- Which litter or breeding they're waiting on
- Quantity they want
- Deposit amount, and whether it's been paid
- Preferences — sex, colour, polled, blue eyes, whatever they've asked for
Status
Reservations move through inquiry → confirmed → fulfilled, with cancelled as the other outcome.
The distinction that matters is inquiry versus confirmed. Someone who has expressed interest and someone who has sent a deposit are different things, and treating them the same is how you end up promising the same doeling twice.
Assigning Kids
Once kids are on the ground, match them to reservations against the recorded preferences. A buyer waiting on a blue-eyed doeling and a buyer who said "any healthy doeling" should be matched in that order.
Waiting Lists
For interest not tied to a specific breeding, the waiting list in Contacts is the better home — someone who wants a doeling sometime rather than from this particular pairing.
Both matter: reservations are commitments against a known litter, waiting lists are demand you can plan next season around.
What the deposit covers, whether it's refundable, and what happens if the doe throws all bucklings. A message thread is a bad place for the only copy of an agreement — documents or the reservation notes are better.
