Make informed breeding decisions with genetic tools built into Herd Manager.
Inbreeding Coefficient (COI)
The COI measures how related two goats are. Lower COI means less inbreeding. The app calculates COI automatically when both the sire and dam have pedigree data entered.
Interpreting COI
- 0-3% — Very low, unrelated
- 3-6% — Low, acceptable for most breeders
- 6-12% — Moderate, some line breeding
- 12%+ — High, tight line breeding or inbreeding
Planning a Breeding
Before breeding, check the COI of potential pairings. Go to the Breeding tab → Plan Breeding to see predicted COI for different buck/doe combinations.
