Show Season Preparation

Planning​

  1. Add shows with their entry deadlines. This is the one that bites — entries close weeks before the show and there's no recovering a missed deadline
  2. Check health status. Vaccinations current, and any testing the show or state requires. Run the overdue view before you enter, not the week before you travel
  3. Sort out travel paperwork. A CVI has a limited validity window — often around 30 days — so last season's certificate is just paper
  4. Review each goat's record — show history, championship legs, and appraisal scores — to decide who's ready for which class
  5. Have registration papers to hand. Upload them so they're on your phone rather than in a drawer at home

At the Show​

  1. Registration numbers, birthdates, and pedigrees are on your phone, and Herd Manager works offline — which matters at fairgrounds with no signal
  2. Record results between classes while the details are fresh. Placing, class size, judge, and ring
Class size is the field people skip

First out of fourteen and first out of two look identical in a record that only says "1st". Capture entries in class at the show — you won't reconstruct it later.

After​

  1. Complete the results — placings, judges, championship legs
  2. Note anything the judge said. Comments on an animal's strengths and faults are worth more six months later than the placing is
  3. Check championship progress — legs total automatically from your results
  4. Record show expenses and any winnings in finances
