Herd Organization
As your herd grows, staying organized is key. Herd Manager gives you several tools to keep things manageable.
Goat Statuses
Every goat has a status that determines how it appears in your herd:
| Status | Meaning | Counts toward limit? |
|---|---|---|
| Active | Currently in your herd | ✅ Yes |
| For Sale | Listed and available | ✅ Yes |
| Sold | No longer in your herd | ❌ No |
| Deceased | Passed away | ❌ No |
| Archived | Hidden from main views | ❌ No |
| Reference | External goat for pedigrees | ❌ No |
Only Active and For Sale goats count toward the free plan's 10-goat limit.
Filtering & Searching
The Herd tab toolbar lets you quickly find goats:
- Search — Type a name, registration number, or tag to filter instantly
- Breed filter — Show only goats of a specific breed
- Sex filter — Filter by bucks, does, wethers, etc.
- Status filter — Show active, sold, or all goats
- Sort — Alphabetical, by age, or by date added
Tips for Large Herds
Use Status Wisely
Mark goats as "Sold" or "Deceased" promptly. This keeps your active herd list clean and your goat count accurate.
Archive for Cleanup
Use "Archived" for goats you want to keep records for but don't need to see daily — like retired does or reference animals.
