The last four matter more than the conversational ones. Deposit Received and Sale Completed are the entries you'll want a date on months later, and Pickup answers "when did she actually leave" — which comes up more often than you'd expect for health certificates and registry transfers.

Why Bother

Kidding season is the test. You'll talk to twenty people over six weeks, half of them about the same doe, and by April you won't remember who wanted what.

A logged interaction turns "someone asked about polled kids, I think in February" into a name, a date, and what you told them.

What to Write in Notes

Whatever your future self would need:

  • What they're actually looking for
  • What you quoted, and what you committed to
  • Whether they've seen the animal
  • Anything you promised to follow up on
Log the commitments, not the pleasantries

"Nice chat" helps nobody. "Quoted $400 for a doeling, said I'd hold one if Rosie throws does" is the note that matters when she does.
